Don't know what the score is mate I haven't heard anything.

Unfortunately I've no time this year to organize it and I think I'd have problems getting the time free to even go. Things are seriously hectic at home.
If someone wants to suggest a date I'd try and make it. Doesn't need to even be the whole Xmas dinner affair, could just have an Xmas camp up in Annalong for the giggles.
Title: Re: Xmas Camp
Post by: seanbranagh on November 06, 2018
I would be up for a wee camp if the date suits. Even if not the full xmas dinner, a few crackers and beers would go down well. It's the only time of year I actually get around to meeting other guys from the forum here.

Ditto! Xmas Camp is about the only time I see anyone on the site.

Annalong is the obvious spot as said (parking, travel distance if bringing kids etc)

Assuming a weekend will suit most people (sorry shiftworkers I feel your pain too) the following would be the dates that it could be done.

Someone wade in and pick one. A date and a place is all we really need.

Friday 30th November
Saturday 1st December

Friday 7th December
Saturday 8th December

Friday 14th December
Saturday 15th December

Friday 21st December
Saturday 22nd December

Guys, I had loved to been able to make this camp, but I don’t think any date in December will suit me to be honest, with my wife working and we’re trying to move house that month too.
It would have been great to have had a catch up with you all, but I hope you have a good night, eat plenty and enjoy the beers!

God I need to get the cobwebs dusted off my tent! 😔

I'm pretty tight for December this year unfortunately but whatever date is picked I'll at least try and make an appearance. It's been a shit year for me getting out, fingers crossed next year is a bit better!

Its been a strange year for me too, and I've hardly walked the length of myself, never mind plundering through the mountains  :(

The 15th should work for me, for a bit of a Christmas get together.  Hopefully see you all there!

Aw, this is sad as it looks like camp won't be happening this year. I've been interested but never made it up to now.  I checked in tonight as camp would probably have taken place around now or at least cooking / supply list would be organised. I know 15th has been mentioned but nobody has taken lead re logistics so I suspect it won't happen. Sorry, I've never met any of you socially but camp has always seemed to be a good thing.  :(

It should still be a great camp, and very festive, so if your free you should try and get along.  I'm pretty sure there will still be some tasty food and drink being passed around :)

We just need to be careful everybody attending doesn't bring mince pies  :D

Hopefully I'm in for this one on the 15th. I appreciate I've been thoroughly useless this year so as penance I'll supply turkey and ham. Since it's low numbers I'll just bring sliced turkey & ham and people can crack on with it and eat it whatever way they want. If someone wants to sort gray too then all good. We could always just go turkey & ham baps or wraps or something.

If people could post if they're definitely going or not it would be handy so I know how much to bring. Don't want to rock up with a wheelbarrow full of meat if there's only a few of us  8)

I'll bring a bit of fancy stuffing, and do the gravy to go with RedLeader's Turkey and Ham.

I made a stuffing last night to go with a chicken dinner and it was fairly top notch if I do say so myself  ;)

Aye, I think RedLeader was getting all confused  ::)

I'll not put you down for the Mushy Peas just yet WhoRya.  If a few more people fancy joining us, we need to leave something for them to bring.  If there's few bits missing a couple of nights before we go, then we can all claim something extra each and complete the banquet  ;)

It's definitely looking wet and windy I'm afraid folks. Forecast below says wet all day Saturday and very windy to boot.

I think anyone who can pack a tarp, guys and pegs please do so that we can get a shelter up if needs be. Also, can someone bring a bow saw, mine's defunct. Reply below if you can help with either or have any other ideas or suggestions.

Title: Re: Xmas Camp
Post by: Glenn B on December 13, 2018
Folks it looking like Saturday is going to be wet and windy all day so the possibility of staying dry is definitely out the window. We have the option of maybe changing the location of the camp to Foffany dam, this has its pros and cons though. On the plus side the forest is a bit thicker so offers a bit more shelter, from the car it's 5mins to the camp spot so a few of us could bring a bag of dry logs to get the makings of a fire going. The flip side of this though is there is no secure parking at Foffany, you either park on the roadside or up at ott car park where as there is secure parking at carrick little if we plough on with hotel Annalong. It makes no odds to me I'm happy to go wherever as I've only myself to think about.
If you all could give us your thoughts on this and we'll take it from there.
Title: Re: Xmas Camp

I'm fine with Fofanny. Will we make a command decision and say Fofanny then? Think we need to decide sooner rather than later so half of us don't turn up at Annalong and half at Fofanny. I'll have the turkey & ham, I'll be okay 8)

Good stuff, then spread the word that it's Fofanny.

Alas the weather looks pretty grim. We'll definitely at least want some tarps, it looks like it might rain all day. There's a chance of it drying up a bit in the evening but I wouldn't hold my breath but it seems like gale force winds all the way!

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gceu3vyby
Saturday:
A cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, the rain persistent and heavy at times especially through the afternoon. Strong to gale force southeasterly winds, risk of severe coastal gales. Maximum Temperature 9 °C.

Campsite is roughly where the circle is.  I'll also have a radio with me on Channel 6.  You'll be able to tuck the car in somewhere handy enough along that road in the pic:

With rivers being where the roads were meant to be, and Tsunamis being where the rivers were meant to be, storm Deirdre made it a Christmas Camp to remember.

Possibly the worst conditions so far, but we still pulled off another Christmas Cracker  :D

Another great night and well done everyone, we still pulled of a full Christmas dinner with all the fixings and trimmings even though it was a tad breezy and damp. What about having next year's in the middle of June ;D ;D ;D

Was a fantastic camp.  It’s a real highlight every year.  Love the fact that it has been possible to do regardless of the weather, and it doesn’t get much worse than Saturday.  Full credit to you guys who got camp set up so that we were warm and dry.  Food was gorgeous, as always.  And thanks for making Cameron so welcome, great memories were made.

It was a WILD camp alright with WILD weather, it was extreme!  Loved meeting up with you all again.  I had to get up at 5.50am and pack up tent and kit and trek through the forest.  Sorry I missed breakfast and didn't get to say goodbye!  I hope I didn't wake you all up packing up.  Roll on next one!

I also have a wee video ready of the Christmas Dinner Camp!  Are you all ok with your children being featured Heggs, Dowser, whoRYA?etc.  Dowser I have included some of you pictures as the camera stop working and it was such a wild night.  Trying to make the best of a bad job with my limited equipment and editing skill!

I'd love to see it, usually there's no issue with content  :) :) as long as there's no footage of me doing any cooking as I don't know how, if you know what I mean  ;D ;D

No problem at all... get it uploaded. I’m watching Casino Royale for the millionth time, and it would be great to be able to turn it off and watch something more interesting 😂

Bring it on.

Incidentally I was watching a movie called Lion.  Great wee movie.  Couldn’t find anything to watch in the action, fantasy, superhero, thriller etc. Genres and went with a true story/personal type one.  Kids really enjoyed it.

Uploaded people.  Stick the headphones on and give it a watch.  The camera went down half way through so Dowsers photos were great!  If you were there it will help you remember after Glen B 's Mulled wine!  If you couldn't make it..watch and weep!  Thanks to everyone for a great night.

Just sat with a big grin on my face the whole way through that, it was a brilliant but hard night and it would have been a shame if we hadn't had taken our 'man up tablets' and just cracked on with it.  We're an elite group, we should get wee patches made up " I was daft enough to attend the 2018 Xmas camp and survived to camp another day". A great night with a bunch of top WILDERS and as I said at the end roll on next year :D ;D :D.     PS I think Xmas falls on the 25th of August this year.....

Brilliant video, just brings back what a good night it was despite the awful weather. Roll on next year, but what about something a little calmer in between. Some sun would be nice and I've an 8 year old itching to camp 8)

Excellent RT, that was great to watch. You really captured the weather and how grim it was but also the amount of fun and good food and good craic it was despite the conditions.

Thank you all for your kind comments on the video.  You guys were the stars in it.  Lets hope the next will be more favorable weather but we all like it to be 'wild' and real!
