Garmin to produce maps for N.I.
« on: June 02, 2010 »

Dear Mr McKibbin

Regarding your query on Northern Ireland mapping for your Oregon 300.

I am pleased to inform you that Garmin have indeed licensed OSNI mapping and are currently developing Northern Ireland mapping software which will be compatible with the Oregon 300. Unfortunately a precise launch date is not yet available however it is expected to be some time in July 2010. As far as I'm aware the mapping will be the Northern Ireland equivalent to what is already available for Britain.

Sounds Good, but depends on price.  ;D

But knowing Garmin it will be incompatible with any other GPS or mapping software.

Mapyx are doing a deal with a company called Lowrance that do GPS units where you will be able to load maps you've bought for the Quo software onto it. I've no experience of whether they're any use though.

Probably, but then I have a garmin for my geocaching so it would not make sense to change...

ATM you can get contours for Ireland via 3rd party for garmin, but to have real topography would be nice.
