50 or 100
« on: June 23, 2012 »

After talking to Craig and a few other ultra runners, i've decided to give it a crack.

I'm entering the Lakeland warrior ultra. There are 2 distances 50k and 100k.
The question is which distance. Should i play it safe and go for 50k or man up and go for the 100k?????? ???

Sign up for 50 and do it twice ;)

Do whatever you feel comfy with, maybe speak to Craig, he's no stranger to the ultra stuff.

I'm definately not the character for these things.  The phrases "playing it safe" and "50k" are way too close together for my liking.

Is this mostly your type of thing now?  Has it been a while since you were up in the hills?

I think Mike's right that you'll get more enjoyment from the 50. It's not that far away, so the 100 would likely be an ordeal for ordeal's sake. I'm not familiar with the course but I think I read reports somewhere about lots of steep sections?! Am sure there are GPS profiles and reviews online somewhere. Better to run it strong and upgrade next year (when I'll probably be doing the 100 too  :) )

For anyone interested in ultra-running, I recently read a really good book that covers everything and offers training plans. Easy read.

50K Definately. Enjoy it: build your body and mind up to tackling the 100K if you then feel like it. If you start off at 100K you've not a lot of places to go after that  ;) Most of all whichever distance you pick good luck and enjoy it!
