Title: Decided to say hello
Post by: ourweecaves on January 10, 2019
Hi Everyone
I came across this forum a couple of years ago and joined, but have never posted anything.
So, better late than never to introduce myself.
I've been bivvying out (mostly in the Mournes) for over 30 years and have always enjoyed being outdoors.
My first love though, is underground exploration, and I've been caving for quite a few years too (mostly in Fermanagh but also in other counties too). Some reports on ourweecaves.blogspot.com
It's great to read some of your reports of camping trips etc. Always makes me start to dream - and then I remember I'm actually in work  :'(
Last bivvy was over the Christmas holidays in Parkanaur Forest near Castlecaulfield -  a lovely spot and a very mild dry night  :)
The kids love it too.
Any way, that's enough from me. Now that I've introduced myself I don't feel like a stalker any more

Hi and welcome to NI Wild.  Good to hear of people getting out and about away from the usual haunts.

Welcome. Have to say, I can't think of much more scary than caving, I'm no fan of  dark enclosed places :)

Didn’t you do a caving trip that was organised through the forum a few years ago?

Welcome. I was a member of the Queens University Caving club many years ago. It's amazing how we forget the months and even years that go by as our days run from one to another - but we remember a 10 minute period of a caving experience we had 40 years ago. I was in Marble Arch caves before it was opened and we were using a dingy, which leaked... any way I'll tell you all about it when we get out this year.... Kevin

Wow! Marble arch before it opened {which was about 1985 I think}. That is pretty special - there aren't many who got to see it in it's undeveloped state.
We made to the "Great Stalactite" in Doolin Cave in Co. Clare many years ago, on our hands and knees, before it was developed into a show cave. Those are memories that last for sure.

Thanks for the welcome everyone by the way  :)

A crowd of brave individuals did go caving but I stayed at home in bed!
